THE GATEKEEPER OF MOUNT MERAPI
Mbah Maridjan was born in 1927 in Kinahrejo Hamlet, Village Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman regency, Yogyakarta Special Province. He has a wife named Ponirah (73), 10 children (five of whom had died), 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mbah Maridjan children surviving named Panut Utomo (50), Sutrisno (45), Sustainable (40), Sulastri (36), and Widodo (30). Those who choose to live there in Yogyakarta and some are in Jakarta.
Among children Mbah Maridjan, there are also ready to inherit the job as caretaker of Mount Merapi and has now become the courtiers of Sultan Palace.
In 1970, Mbah Maridjan appointed courtiers and the palace of Yogyakarta Sultanate lane IX was given a new name, namely Mas Penewu Suraksohargo1. At that time, as the courtiers, Mbah Maridjan was given the position as caretaker to the rank of deputy Mantri Interpreter Lock, accompanied his father who served as caretaker of Mount Merapi.
By the time a deputy gatekeeper, Mbah Maridjan has often represented his father to lead the ritual ceremony at the peak of Mount Merapi harbor. After his father died, on March 3, 1982, Mbah Maridjan was appointed caretaker of Mount Merapi.
As a Sultan Palace courtiers to the caretaker position, Mbah Maridjan also showed high values of fidelity. Although Mount Merapi spewed lava and hot clouds are dangerous to humans, he insisted would not evacuate.
His attitude was that impressed mbalelo solely as a manifestation of its responsibility for the tasks mandated by Ngarsa Dalem.
